About Us
We are The Hoffman Research Group, a family business
in the foothills of the Unicoi Mountains in East
Tennessee. Many of our ideas for Why Not
Knot for Fun? came from the play activities
of our children. The children were using the
twine from hay bales to build toys, forts, and
platforms. We joined in with rope and knots,
and had such a good time that we decided to teach
others about the adventures you can have with
ropes and knots!
Living on a small family farm, we use rope frequently
for securing loads, leading calves, and hoisting
beams, as well as many other practical applications.
We began our life in the country with only a
sketchy idea of how to get things done. Over
the years we still don't know much, but have
managed to keep the lights on and our stomachs
full while enjoying life and the wonders of God's
